Several years ago, I verbally shared my city-related issues to several city councilpersons individually. I noticed a political lifestyle: None of the city council individuals wrote notes. –They simply listened. Then I realized another lifestyle. None of the city council individuals followed-up with any of my city issues. The same applied to my emails and postal mailings. All were silent after receiving my city issue concerns. One council member who did email, replied by attacking me personally, ad hominem. He never addressed the issue. As for the Mayor herself, she told me, “…I always follow up…after a person speaks at city hall…” For those who spoke your 3-minute limit, (first handing in your completed form, with requested name, address and phone number) did you ever get a follow up call, email or an appointment for a meeting? I have spoken four times at city hall. Never did I received a phone call, let alone an email or postal card. No follow-up.

Ultimately, I noticed how city officials addressed their constituencies. There is no accountability! From my empirical evaluation, all communications from our elected city representatives are verbal. In one ear, out the other, is how it appears.

Our local government is the residents of Lemon Grove. Persistence on issues is crucial. Obtaining final answers from city government is key. We the residents need to scream out, we demand answers–even if it’s not what we what to hear. A negative-answer is much better than a no-answer, called a “silent denial.” At the minimum, receiving an answer puts the issue to rest–finalized. And yes, of couse, a verbal answer.

Yes, the people of Lemon Grove needs a plan, a strategy and an approach. Perhaps timing can be the issue in itself? Yes, issues take effort. Yes, the public needs to organize and rally support. Yes, some issues are not resolved within a year. And yes, some issues require financial budgets. Historically, it takes a tragedy, like a needless death, for the residents to respond in numbers. Reactive versus proactive is our constitutional right. Responding in numbers is very powerful.
I am one voice, powerless. I had written to City Hall as one person, powerless. I finally realized, hitting a brick wall, individuals are so convenient for city hall. Separated, we are voiceless. At City Hall Tuesday’s meetings, I have witnessed how the residents of Lemon Grove complaint on the same issues — all as individuals. Compared this to the business model: Now there’s power.

Businesses bring revenue, sweet music to the ears of our city councilmembers. Corporations bring “heavy hitters,” their power of influence. Business staff, from the very begining, have a plan, objective and at times, legal authority. Their approach is to get answers, even if it means being persistant and demanding. Businesses do not settle for abandonment.

Together in numbers, we the residents of Lemon Grove need to speak with one voice–our collective voice. We need to be seen, and most important, respected as if we were a business. Individuals do not bring revenue, a given. Together, one united collective voice, we can tell our city representiatives — we mean business!

Residents of Lemon Grove, I encourage you to express your business with our city representatives–and demand and expect answers. Encourage, demand and expect written answers–especially when you have taken the time to write an email or postal mail.

I cannot do this alone as an individual. We are the government. I need volunteers to form our LG91945 committee. Together, you, residents, we can demonstrate our government. Together we can expect answers. Together we can volunteer as a team — to benefit our next generation, residents of Lemon Grove. As I always remind my adult children, “Don’t think about it. Plan it.”

A plan is so challenging, compare to, I am thinking about it.

Please, let’s form our committee, so we can continue and press forward.

Thank you. Enjoy https://91945.org/
